Backstage.

I’ve been making portraits backstage for over 15 years.

It started at a circus — my best friend in high school owned it. Photographers would come with long lenses and photograph the show, but I only ever wanted to be backstage.

Photographing artists in these liminal spaces provides such an unusual insight. The moments immediately before or after the show, behind the curtain.
